About Us

Our Journey

Food is one of the strongest threads in India’s cultural fabric. For generations, the Indian Railways have been more than a way to travel, they’ve been a moving corridor of exchange. As trains traveled the length and breadth of the country, they carried people, recipes, ingredients, and memories. Station platforms became melting pots; level crossings, quiet pauses of connection.

Our name, The Crossing, reflects Chef Ankur’s childhood train journeys with his father, who worked for the railways, and the flavours he discovered at India’s vibrant crossing stations, recipes that, after 22 years of experience and training alongside Michelin-starred chefs, now come to life at The Crossing.

A Personal Story

For Chef Ankur, The Crossing is deeply personal. His father devoted his life to the Indian Railways, and childhood journeys filled him with wonder…. the whistle, the movement, the promise of discovery. Those moments became the emotional roots of The Crossing.

Our Philosophy

Our name isn’t just a place, it’s an idea, of food that travels, evolves, and connects. We look beyond familiar dishes to rediscover forgotten recipes and regional flavors, tracing stories passed through hands. At The Crossing, we celebrate the diversity of India through flavor, craft, and memory.

The Experience

From interiors inspired by first-class railway lounges to a logo that hides a track line within the ‘H’, every detail reflects our story. This isn’t nostalgia, it’s a commitment to preserving India’s culinary heritage with care. Because food, at its best, isn’t just eaten — it’s experienced, remembered, and shared.

The Crossing debuted at Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann in 2023, the first Indian restaurant within the iconic store. Following success in Paris, we expanded to Nice on the French Riviera, then to Leeds in the United Kingdom,  and now to Ealing, London — bringing the same railway-inspired spirit and regional Indian cuisine to a new horizon.

A Culinary Tribute to India’s Rich flavors

Our menu is a celebration of mainstream Indian dishes, while also venturing off the beaten path to present lesser-known treasures from Rajput kitchens, the flavours of northeast India, and the hearty delicacies of the country’s breathtaking coastline. In addition to these traditional offerings, we pay homage to the historical influences of past rulers and explorers who left an indelible mark on Indian gastronomy.

Every dish on our menu is crafted with care, using ethically sourced, GI-tagged ingredients that embody authenticity and quality.

At The Crossing Indian Bistro, every dish brings you closer to the soul of India, where bold flavors meet timeless warmth, and heritage meets innovation. We’re proud to be among the finest Indian restaurants in Paris, Nice, Leeds, and Ealing, serving authentic cuisine that blends family tradition with the depth and diversity of India’s culinary heritage.

Indian Hospitality Through Railway Culture

Understanding Indian Hospitality Through Railway Culture

Indian hospitality is not rooted in formality, but in movement, pause, and instinctive generosity. This article explores how India’s railway culture shaped a distinct understanding of welcome and care — one that continues to inform the philosophy of The Crossing Indian Bistro. Set in Nice and influenced by Parisian dining sensibilities, this approach offers food lovers one of the best Indian restaurant experiences through warmth, rhythm, and return rather than performance.

What Makes a Modern Indian Bistro

What Makes a Modern Indian Bistro Different?

Indian restaurants have existed outside India for decades. Yet the idea of the modern Indian bistro is relatively new — and often misunderstood. It is not simply a smaller restaurant, a lighter menu, or a contemporary interior. Nor is it an attempt to dilute tradition for global appeal.

Why Heritage Matters in Modern Indian Dining

Modern Indian dining is often discussed in terms of innovation — lighter menus, contemporary spaces, edited techniques, global settings. Yet this conversation frequently overlooks the quiet force that makes such evolution possible: heritage.
